What Is Calvary Chapel?
If you've visited our church, you may have heard someone mention that we are a Calvary Chapel. For many people, that raises a simple question.
What does that mean?
Calvary Chapel is not a denomination with a complicated hierarchy or a unique set of doctrines. It is a fellowship of independent churches that share the same heart for teaching God's Word, loving people, and keeping Jesus at the center of everything we do.

A Brief History
Calvary Chapel began in Costa Mesa, California, during the late 1960s under the leadership of Pastor Chuck Smith. At a time when many churches struggled to connect with a younger generation, Calvary Chapel opened its doors to anyone who wanted to hear about Jesus. Hippies, surfers, college students, families, and lifelong churchgoers all found a place where they were welcomed and taught the Bible.
The church became closely associated with what came to be known as the Jesus Movement. Thousands of people came to faith in Christ, and many were discipled and sent out to plant churches around the world. Today, there are Calvary Chapels across the United States and in many other countries, each led by local pastors but united by a shared commitment to faithfully teach Scripture.
